Dr. Peter Black Named UBC Distinguished University Scholar for 2025

The Department of Urologic Sciences is proud to share that Dr. Peter Black has been named one of UBC’s 2025 Distinguished University Scholars (DUS), one of the university’s most prestigious academic honours.

 

Conferred by the President on the recommendation of an adjudication panel, the DUS designation recognizes exceptional faculty members who have demonstrated outstanding scholarly achievement, international leadership in their field, and a sustained record of excellence in research, teaching, and mentorship.

Dr. Black, Professor in the Department of Urologic Sciences, a clinician and scientist at the Vancouver Prostate Centre, is internationally recognized for his impactful contributions to urologic oncology, particularly in advancing bladder cancer research and improving patient outcomes. His work exemplifies the innovation, academic rigor, and commitment to excellence reflected in the Distinguished University Scholar program.

As part of the award, DUS recipients receive research support and a multi-year stipend to advance their scholarly programs further. The designation is held throughout the recipient’s tenured appointment at UBC.
