Dr. Davide Cina is a surgeon-scientist and Assistant Professor in the UBC Department of Urologic Sciences. He is also a Senior Research Scientist at the Centre for Kidney Transplantation and Immunology within the M.H. Mohseni Institute of Urologic Sciences.

He completed his residency in urology and a postdoctoral fellowship in immunogenetics at UBC, followed by a fellowship in abdominal transplant surgery at Emory University. Dr. Cina earned his MD and PhD from Northwestern University, where his doctoral research investigated genes involved in the kidney’s filtration system.

Dr. Cina’s research focuses on advancing precision medicine in transplantation through the study of transplant immunology. His work uses high-content cell-based screening to investigate immune cell biology and identify potential targets for immunosuppression. He also develops approaches to assess and monitor immune risk in kidney transplant recipients and applies advanced histopathology and immunopeptidomics to characterize the immune cells and antigens involved in transplant rejection.

His teaching interests encompass surgical education, evidence-based medicine and translational research. He is particularly interested in preparing residents for the operative and clinical aspects of transplantation and urology and in mentoring graduate and postgraduate learners in basic and translational immunology.
